Barber

Location: North America

The Barber is a severe wind, generally blowing east to southeast, that is carrying sleet, snow, or spray at air temperatures close to the freezing point. This name is given to the storm winds of Canada and the United States that bring with them extreme cold and moist air. So cold that it freezes all it touches, including hair and beards.

Known at sea for freezing decks and riggings of boats and known in the Gulf of St Lawrence as a local form of blizzard in which wind-borne ice particles almost cut the skin from the face.
