Gales around Biscay, also southern Scandinavia


Boxing Day
A cold front moves east into central Europe, bringing bursts of rain to Germany, and some snow for the Alps. Blustery west to southwesterly winds, possibly gusting gale force. Areas of showery rain affect southern France and Spain, but Portugal should be brighter. Another batch of rain reaches north-west Spain and western France later as further fronts move in from the Atlantic. Meanwhile, eastern Europe stays dry and mild, with sunshine in Greece , highs 16C. Unsettled across southern Scandinavia, with strong to gale force winds, heavy rain, or heavy snow in central Norway and Sweden. Snow also reaches Finland. Staying cold and dry in the far north.


Wednesday
Low pressure affects north-western Europe, bringing cool and unsettled conditions to France and the Low Countries. Some heavy rain for the western Mediterranean, Italy and the Balkans. Snow for the western Alps and Pyrenees. Pulses of heavy showers will move south-east across Spain, although Portugal may escape often dry. Widespread strong winds, with gales around Biscay.
Meanwhile, much of eastern Europe stays dry and mild, with south to southwesterly winds. Slack low pressure across Scandinavia, with areas of snow moving around slowly for central Sweden and western Norway. Plenty of dry weather in the far north, and staying very cold. Fairly mild for the southern Baltic.
