Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Increasingly wet central Europe

Tuesday
Thunderstorms are a possibility for Spain, especially the southeastern part of the country. A dry, warm and fine day across the rest of Spain as well as for Portugal and the Balearic Islands. Dry and fine too for much of Italy though showers could develop along the spine of the country and for Sicily later. Western Greece may also see afternoon showers develop but for much of the country and for Turkey it's another sunny, very warm and dry day.
A weak front brings showery outbreaks of rain into northwest France, the Low Countries and northern Germany. Ahead of this over France it's a cloudy and dry day while scattered showers affect much of Germany. Afternoon showers develop over the Alps where they may be locally heavy and over Poland where they're likely to be more scattered and lighter.
A band of rain sweeps across southern parts of Norway and Sweden as well as Denmark. Showery rain affecting northern parts of Norway and Sweden as well as Finland eases through the day leaving a dry evening. A mostly dry and fine day for the Baltic States though isolated showers may develop over Lithuania later.

Wednesday
Slack low pressure affects central and northern Europe, whilst low pressure lies out to the west over the Atlantic. Very warm across southwestern Spain and Portugal with temperatures approaching 40C. Less hot further north and east across Spain, with some areas of rain or local thunderstorms. Plenty of dry weather for France, but areas of rain affect eastern regions.
Thundery rain breaking out widely across central Europe, including the Alps, northern Italy, the south and east of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. Eastern Europe will be generally drier with just scattered showers for the Balkans and Romania. Greece and southern Italy mainly dry, but the odd heavy shower possible for Sicily.
Rain affects much of southern Scandinavia, heavy at times, whilst northern parts of Norway and Sweden will see just scattered showers. Generally dry and warm for Finland and the Baltic states.
