Thundery rain south-eastern Europe


Friday
High pressure is centred around Biscay, producing fair weather across western Europe. Hot for south-western Spain and Portugal, topping 30C. Cooler for northern Spain at 18C. A strong mistral wind affects southern France and the western Mediterranean. Low pressure over the central Mediterranean brings rain to eastern parts of Italy and the Balkan states, thundery in places. A few showers for Greece . Very warm for southern Romania and Bulgaria, around 25C, then thunderstorms will break out later in the day and overnight.
Meanwhile, a cool north-westerly wind affects central-northern Europe, with showers for Germany, Poland, the Baltic states. Some persistent rain for the northern Alps. Just 10 to 13C. A few showers possible for the Low countries and eastern France, but most of France stays dry with sunshine. Showery for northern Norway, with snow over the mountains, locally to quite low levels. Sunshine and scattered showers for Sweden and Finland.


Saturday
Pressure remains high across western Europe, extending into the western Mediterranean, bringing plenty of sunshine for Spain, Portugal and much of France. Hot again for south-western Iberia, over 30C in places. Nearer 20C for eastern Spain and southern France. Lighter winds than previous days for the western Med. Dry weather extends to Italy and the Alps, also Hungary. Low pressure centred over Greece brings heavy rain and thunder, which also extends across Bulgaria and Romania.
A westerly breeze for northern Europe, with rain for Belgium and the Netherlands, extending into northern Germany. Cool at 11 to 13C. Wet too for southern Scandinavia. Northern regions will be brighter, but with local bands of showery rain. Mainly dry for Poland and the Czech Republic. Showery for the Baltic states.
