Torrential summer thunderstorms in much of central Europe


Tuesday
A mostly fine day for Portugal and Spain though showers affect northern areas once again. Dry and fine for the Balearic Islands, Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily too. After a fine start, heavy, sometimes thundery, downpours develop over much of Italy, northern Greece and eastern Turkey.
A dry, fine start for much of central Europe too on Tuesday though widespread showers develop later across France, the Low Countries, western Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Staying mostly dry for eastern Germany and Poland while isolated showers affect the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
High pressure shifts north on Tuesday which allows for showers to develop over southern parts of Norway and Sweden. Staying mostly dry and fine for Finland and Denmark while Estonia could see some heavy downpours. Isolated showers affect parts of Latvia and Lithuania too.

Wednesday
Some showers in northern Spain today. Most of the rest of Spain will be fair with plenty of sunshine. Staying fair for Portugal too, and sunny. A few heavy showers in Majorca, but fine for Corsica and Sardinia. Italy will see torrential thunderstorms in the afternoon in central and northern areas. Greece should be mostly dry and sunny, although some showers in the north. Turkey wil be largely dry with more sunshine, just a low risk of a shower in the east.
Heavy and thundery showers in France, some of them torrential. Further torrential thunderstorms and longer spells of rain affecting much of the Low Countries and western parts of Germany Switzerland and Austria will see the thunderstorms too with more in Austria. Eastern Poland will be wet, but the west should be dry.
