Fine Scandinavia but thundery Spain and Portugal
During Thursday and a large and dominant area of high pressure persists over Scandinavia bringing fine and warm weather to much of Norway, Sweden and Finland. These fair weather conditions also continue to dominate across much of the British Isles, but with a few showers possible across S England as the day progresses. The remainder of Europe is void of any active weather systems so while plenty of warm or very warm sunshine is forecast, atmospheric pressure is low enough to allow for the development of fairly widespred afternoon heavy showers or thunderstorms. It remains likely that most of these will be across parts of France, eastwards into Germany and parts of Switzerland, while potentially affecting Spain and Portugal still as well given that low pressure persists here. Plenty of fine and very warm weather for eastern and south-eastern areas of Europe, hot in fact across Greece, Turkey and Slovakia, for example, but with afternoon downpours possible.
Heavy and thundery showers over Portugal and Spain today. Southern and eastern Spain should be dry with sunny spells. The Balearics are likely to be sry as will be Corsica and Sardinia. Heavy showers for Greece and also for the west of Turkey.
Some thundery showers forming in northern France but dry to the south with sunny spells. Scattered thunderstorms in the Low Countries and the west of Germany but dry i the east. Showers affecting Poland. Further showers, some heavy for Hungary and Austria as well as Switzerland.
Fine weather to come in Denmark with sunshine here. More sunshine for the Baltic States and in Finland too. Sweden will have plenty of sunshine and should stay dry. It will also be staying dry and sunny for most of Norway.
